City Teams Up With Organizations and Locals to Refurbish Strother Park’s Basketball Court

Strother

ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA – The City of Arroyo Grande and Arroyo Grande Public Art have teamed up with Project Backboard, local student Noah Pick and local basketball entrepreneur Trevor Weiger to renovate Strother Park’s basketball court located at 1150 Huasna Road, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.

Renovations and upgrades include resurfacing, painting and installing new backboards and rims. The project centerpiece will feature a one of a kind colorful, mural-style painting on the basketball court designed by Noah Pick. The functional 4,700 square foot art piece will capture the elements of Arroyo Grande’s geography and add to the cultural and aesthetic vitality of the community. Donations of time and resources are being welcomed.

The restoration of Strother Park was the vision of Noah Pick to remedy the lack of suitable outdoor basketball courts located in Arroyo Grande to play on during the pandemic and the lack of indoor courts due to closures. The City of Arroyo Grande City Council formally approved the Project in November 2021 after working with the Recreation Services Department and going through the Arroyo Grande Public Art review process.

Project Backboard, a 501c(3), focuses on strengthening communities by helping create one of a kind basketball courts that serve as outdoor community centers. For more information on how you can be involved, donate or volunteer, please contact the Recreation Services Department at [email protected].
